Meet Sam*. He’s a high school student with a big heart.
When he and his sibling weren’t able to live at home together, he saved his lunch to make sure his brother wouldn’t go hungry at dinner.
His local Care to Learn Chapter soon found out and stepped in to make sure both boys had stocked pantries and grocery support. They also connected the brothers to resources, ensuring they both had nutritious meals at school.
The school is my family.

For Sam, this support was more than just a lifeline in the moment; it marked the beginning of a relationship that would prove invaluable down the road.
Later in the year, a mobile tooth truck came to visit Sam’s school. He found out his mouth was full of cavities and tooth decay, and the mobile unit didn’t have the capacity to help.
With the help of Care to Learn and other local partners, Sam was able to access major cavity repair and dental reconstruction.
I never thought that I would be able to smile again without hiding my teeth.

“When we first offered to help, Sam was in total disbelief,” Jaime,* the school social worker, shared. “Now he’s walking through the halls with the biggest smile.”
Sam’s journey is a testament to the power of community support. Today, he’s on track to graduate high school and has a bright future ahead. For him, school isn’t just a place to learn; it’s a family that has helped him overcome challenges and thrive.
“Sometimes the needs and resources are not just one and done,” said Jaime. “We’re so glad we have the ability to offer him the care and support he needs.”
